Helpline is a 501c3 nonprofit organization that has been servicing the eastern metro Birmingham area for 40 years. It started out as a telephone counseling ministry in 1983 known as the Birmingham counseling ministries. At that time operation blessings/700 club was our main proud sponsor. Through operation blessing many other ministries were blessed by funding grants to have summer programs, book clubs, and giving back to school help. Some of the ministries include Miracle Temple Deliverance, New City Church, and Set Free Ministries to name a few. The telephone ministry consisted of prayer lines that were managed throughout Alabama and the southeast areas of the United states. Outreach ministry was also done through feeding, giving out clothes, etc. and giving financial assistance in the low income areas of eastern metro-Birmingham (when grant funding was made available to us). School supplies, clothing, financial assistance, and food were given out as needed. Mrs. Christine Kirkley was the director at that time. Then in 1991; she and the board of directors voted on a name change to Helpline Christian Outreach Ministries, Inc. and make our focus heavily on meeting the needs of the indigenous of the community on a weekly basis. As of today; Mrs Christine Kirkley and the board has given Helpline (HCOM) to another board member Ms. Kellie Thomas to hold the GEO/directors position. We at Helpline totally rely on local churches, businesses, and individuals to support us through monthly contributions. These contributions pay our monthly operating expenses. We are also staffed by volunteers only; Who logged over 8,000 hours of their time in 2019-2020 to ensure that over 8,100 individuals needs were met in their crucial time of need (i.e. pre/post COVID-19). Helpline is now seeking new monthly financial sponsors to help us continue to this Human Service Journey for many years to come.
Helpline Christian Outreach Ministries is a faith-based organization that does not discriminate among race, religion, color, sex, sexual orientation, age, national origin, ancestry, citizenship, veteran, or any disability status. Because as we all know, a crisis situation does not discriminate either. Helpline is designed to make a mark on the lives of others by providing crucial Human Services to the economically disadvantaged individuals that mainly reside in eastern metro Birmingham area. We aim to meet the basic “everyday” means of the client by providing food, clothes, toiletries, school supplies/uniforms, etc. on a weekly basis. Through financial assistance, referrals, encouragement and support helpline provides a “hand up” and not just a handout, that will move each individual one step closer to providing a safe and well maintained home for their family that will place them on the road to self-sufficiency. Helpline gives a HELPING HAND of HOPE during an individual 's critical time of need. We ensure that all clients needs are met physically, spiritually, socially, financially and/or mentally.

We have several sources that provide food, both perishable and non-perishable items, to give out weekly as they are made available to us from our food pantry. At times our “pantry” is very full and sometimes we must turn people away.
We also accept donations to our pantry throughout the year. If you are interested in making a donation, please contact us.

As funds are available we assist with rent, utilities, and medicine to the elderly. We have a screening process and we work with other agencies to determine the dire needs.
Please note: If we do not return your phone call or email we are unable to assist you at this time.
We provide food boxes during the holidays: Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter, Mother's Day, etc.
By working with Church’s, Individuals, and others we provide basic school supplies, and some uniform assistance.
We work with sponsors every year to help families make their children's wishes come true!
We know the One who is the source for all our needs and we go to Him on behalf of all those who come to our ministry.
