We are a 501c3 non-profit organization that has been servicing the Eastern Metro-Birmingham area for 35 years. We started out as a telephone counseling ministry (i.e. Birmingham Counseling Ministries). Operation Blessings was our main proud sponsor and Christine Kirkley was the director. Then, in 1991, she decided we needed to do more in the community. So she called on the Board of Director’s for help and we changed our name (Helpline Christian Outreach Ministries, Inc.) and our focus to serving the indigent of the community on a weekly basis.
As of today, Ms. Kellie Thomas is our Director. Helpline now aims to meet the basic "everyday" needs of the client by providing food, clothes, toiletries, school supplies/uniforms, etc. We also provide financial assistance to economically disadvantaged individuals when funds are made available to us. We at Helpline totally rely on local churches, businesses, and individuals to support us through monthly contributions to pay our monthly operating expenses. We are also staffed by Volunteer’s only; who logged over 6,000 hours of their time last year (2019) to ensure that over 4,000 individuals’ needs were met in their crucial time of need. Helpline is now seeking new monthly financial sponsors to help us continue to be a Hand-up and not just a Hand-out during COVID-19, and beyond.
Here at Helpline, we do not discriminate among race, religion, color, sex, sexual orientation, age, national origin, ancestry, citizenship, veteran, or any disability status. Helpline is designed to make a mark on the lives of others by providing crucial human services to the economically disadvantaged individuals and to provide financial
Here at Helpline, we do not discriminate among race, religion, color, sex, sexual orientation, age, national origin, ancestry, citizenship, veteran, or any disability status. Helpline is designed to make a mark on the lives of others by providing crucial human services to the economically disadvantaged individuals and to provide financial assistance when funds are made available to us. Through financial assistance, some referrals, and other support Helpline provides a "Hand-Up" and not just a “Hand-Out” that will move the individual one step closer to providing a safe and well maintained home for their family, that will place them on the road to self-sufficiency.
Basically; Helpline gives a “HELPING HAND of HOPE” during an individual’s critical time of need by serving them physically, financially,
spiritually, socially and mentally.
We celebrate the life and legacy of these Honorary Board members/volunteers of Helpline Christian Outreach Ministries. These Extraordinary women were a vital part of the Helpline Ministry. If you would like to donate financially in their honor you are welcome to do so below.
